Quirky Opinions

October Wrap-up, and November and December TBR

Hello again! We’re getting to the end of the year, and this is going to be the last TBR post of 2021 because, like every year, I have a collective plan for November and December. And the plan is to finish or continue as many series as I can. But first, the wrap-up. I didn’t read a lot of books in October, but I think it was better than September. The first half, at least.

  1. The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan — 5 Stars — Middle-Grade Fantasy, Mythology
  2. Exit Strategy by Martha Wells — 3.75 Stars — Science Fiction
  3. Two-Man Team by Amy Aislin — 3 Stars — Contemporary Romance
  4. The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan — 4.5 Stars — High Fantasy
  5. Farview by Kim Fielding — 4 Stars — High Fantasy Romance
  6. The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer — 4 Stars — Middle-Grade Urban Fantasy
  7. The Opal Deception by Eoin Colfer — 4 Stars — Middle-Grade Urban Fantasy
  8. Wed to the Barbarian by Kiera Andrews — 3 Stars — High Fantasy Romance

Now, when I compare this list to the TBR I had, I did really badly. Of the 9 books I had planned, I read 2. But I have an explanation for a lot of it.

Two of the books—Red Seas Under Red Skies and The Anthropocene Reviewed—I’m currently reading. One was an Amy Aislin book that I simply replaced with a different Amy Aislin book. All American Boys was a DNF because I didn’t like the writing (tiny review here). Fires of Vengeance and Us Against You were both put on hold. The former because I couldn’t get into it, and the latter because I don’t feel emotionally ready for it. And finally, I just changed my mind about Changeless (irony intended). I’m not sure it’s a series I’m even interested in anymore.

Anyway, onto the November and December TBR. It’s short for two months, but that’s because I wanted to give myself more room to read what I felt like.

  1. Network Effect by Martha Wells — Science Fiction
  2. Last Night I Sang to the Monster by Benjamin Alire Saenz — Young Adult Literary Fiction
  3. Poirot Investigates by Agatha Christie — Mystery, Short Stories
  4. Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson — Epic Fantasy
  5. The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett — Absurdist High Fantasy
  6. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams — Absurdist Science Fiction
  7. The Shadow Throne by Jennifer A. Nielsen — Middle-Grade High Fantasy
  8. Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey — Science Fiction

That last one hadn’t been part of the plan. Except I went to the library earlier today and picked it up on a whim.

That’s it for this post. I might still do a wrap-up for both months. And I’ll be continuing the series wrap-up posts. I did two this month: Him Duology by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy, and the Magisterium series by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare.
