Hello again! We’re getting to the end of the year, and this is going to be the last TBR post of 2021 because, like every year, I have a collective plan for November and December. And the plan is to finish or continue as many series as I can. But first, the wrap-up. I didn’t read a lot of books in October, but I think it was better than September. The first half, at least.
- The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan — 5 Stars — Middle-Grade Fantasy, Mythology
- Exit Strategy by Martha Wells — 3.75 Stars — Science Fiction
- Two-Man Team by Amy Aislin — 3 Stars — Contemporary Romance
- The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan — 4.5 Stars — High Fantasy
- Farview by Kim Fielding — 4 Stars — High Fantasy Romance
- The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer — 4 Stars — Middle-Grade Urban Fantasy
- The Opal Deception by Eoin Colfer — 4 Stars — Middle-Grade Urban Fantasy
- Wed to the Barbarian by Kiera Andrews — 3 Stars — High Fantasy Romance
Now, when I compare this list to the TBR I had, I did really badly. Of the 9 books I had planned, I read 2. But I have an explanation for a lot of it.
Two of the books—Red Seas Under Red Skies and The Anthropocene Reviewed—I’m currently reading. One was an Amy Aislin book that I simply replaced with a different Amy Aislin book. All American Boys was a DNF because I didn’t like the writing (tiny review here). Fires of Vengeance and Us Against You were both put on hold. The former because I couldn’t get into it, and the latter because I don’t feel emotionally ready for it. And finally, I just changed my mind about Changeless (irony intended). I’m not sure it’s a series I’m even interested in anymore.
Anyway, onto the November and December TBR. It’s short for two months, but that’s because I wanted to give myself more room to read what I felt like.
- Network Effect by Martha Wells — Science Fiction
- Last Night I Sang to the Monster by Benjamin Alire Saenz — Young Adult Literary Fiction
- Poirot Investigates by Agatha Christie — Mystery, Short Stories
- Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson — Epic Fantasy
- The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett — Absurdist High Fantasy
- The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams — Absurdist Science Fiction
- The Shadow Throne by Jennifer A. Nielsen — Middle-Grade High Fantasy
- Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey — Science Fiction
That last one hadn’t been part of the plan. Except I went to the library earlier today and picked it up on a whim.
That’s it for this post. I might still do a wrap-up for both months. And I’ll be continuing the series wrap-up posts. I did two this month: Him Duology by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy, and the Magisterium series by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare.
