This is one of my favourite series. It’s also the only one I’ve read three times. It follows Percy Jackson, a twelve-year-old “troubled” kid. Percy has ADHD and Dyslexia, and he’s been expelled from five different schools due to weird things that seem to happen around him. In fact, things are about to get weird in this school too. Percy will find out that he’s a demigod, and that he’s being accused of stealing Zeus’s lightning bolt.

The series follows Percy between the ages of 12 to 16. He and some of his friends go on different adventures, all dangerous.

All five books are from Percy’s perspective. They’re all fast-paced, really funny and will teach you a lot about Greek Mythology. This is a series I’ll easily recommend to everyone, irrespective of age. My favourite book in the series is the fourth. And my least favourite is the second.

There’s one thing I want to warn you about. A lot of people seem to get stuck halfway through the second book. I know readers who have dropped the series at that point. I also put the book on hold for a bit. It might not happen to you, but if it does, I highly recommend pushing through. Because if you push through those 50 or so pages, nothing’s gonna stop you for the rest of the series.

Here are the books:

  1. The Lightning Thief — 4 Stars
  2. The Sea of Monsters — 4 Stars
  3. The Titan’s Curse — 5 Stars
  4. The Battle of the Labyrinth — 5 Stars
  5. The Last Olympian — 5 Stars

There’s also a novella set between books 4 and 5 called The Demigod Files (4 Stars), which has three short stories, illustrations and a few other fun things. It’s about 150 pages and worth checking out. But even if you skip it, you won’t feel like you’re missing something. You could read it after too. What’s important is that you read the main series, which I highly urge you to do.
